It's All Alphabetical - J & K

We are lucky enough to have some pretty awesome book lovers in our lives, and nothing makes us happier than getting good recommendations from them. In the spirit of that, we asked our friends to play the alphabet game with us and tell us exactly why you needed to be reading these books. So, here we go! Here are the J and K books that come recommended from highly trusted sources.

(A, B, C, D, E, F, GH, & I Lists)

Just Like Heaven by Julia Quinn
Anny says: Because this is a very typical Quinn book: a very light, fun and exciting read. If you love a book with heroines falling for their brother's best friend, then this is the book for you.

Marcus Holroyd is the best friend of Honoria Smythe-Smith's brother, Daniel, who lives in exile out of the country. Marcus has promised to watch out for Honoria and takes his responsibility very seriously. But he has his work cut out for him when Honoria sets off for Cambridge determined to marry by the end of the season. _____________________________________________________________________
Jinx by Meg Cabot
Allyson says: Because, as always, Meg Cabot writes really smart, funny heroines and knows how to give her readers a romance to die for.

It's not easy being Jinx.

The only thing Jean Honeychurch hates more than her boring name (not Jean Marie, or Jeanette, just...Jean) is her all-too-appropriate nickname, Jinx. Misfortune seems to follow her everywhere she goes—which is why she's thrilled to be moving in with her aunt and uncle in New York City. Maybe when she's halfway across the country, Jinx can finally outrun her bad luck. Or at least escape the havoc she's caused back in her small hometown.

But trouble has definitely followed Jinx to New York. And it's causing big problems for her cousin Tory, who is not happy to have the family black sheep around. Beautiful, glamorous Tory is hiding a dangerous secret—one that she's sure Jinx is going to reveal.
Jinx is beginning to realize it isn't just bad luck she's been running from. It's something far more sinister...and the curse Jinx has lived under since the day she was born might just be the only thing that can save her life. _____________________________________________________________________
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
Betsy says: Because it's a classic book but it deals with the mysterious ghost of the manor, romance and all good things. If you like classic reads this book is for you!

Orphaned into the household of her Aunt Reed at Gateshead, subject to the cruel regime at Lowood charity school, Jane Eyre nonetheless emerges unbroken in spirit and integrity. She takes up the post of governess at Thornfield, falls in love with Mr. Rochester, and discovers the impediment to their lawful marriage in a story that transcends melodrama to portray a woman's passionate search for a wider and richer life than Victorian society traditionally allowed.
With a heroine full of yearning, the dangerous secrets she encounters, and the choices she finally makes, Charlotte Bronte's innovative and enduring romantic novel continues to engage and provoke readers. _____________________________________________________________________
Just Listen by Sarah Dessen
Nina says: It's a beautiful story and I loved how the author took her time with the romance. It's a slow burn in the best way.

Last year, Annabel was "the girl who has everything" — at least that's the part she played in the television commercial for Kopf's Department Store.

This year, she's the girl who has nothing: no best friend because mean-but-exciting Sophie dropped her, no peace at home since her older sister became anorexic, and no one to sit with at lunch. Until she meets Owen Armstrong.

Tall, dark, and music-obsessed, Owen is a reformed bad boy with a commitment to truth-telling. With Owen's help, maybe Annabel can face what happened the night she and Sophie stopped being friends. _____________________________________________________________________
Just One Day by Gayle Forman
Dawn says: I loved this book: a little travel, a little Shakespeare, and a little love. My only ehh is the ending! Although that has been tied up in a pretty bow thanks to a novella published this year!

Allyson Healey's life is exactly like her suitcase—packed, planned, ordered. Then on the last day of her three-week post-graduation European tour, she meets Willem. A free-spirited, roving actor, Willem is everything she’s not, and when he invites her to abandon her plans and come to Paris with him, Allyson says yes. This uncharacteristic decision leads to a day of risk and romance, liberation and intimacy: 24 hours that will transform Allyson’s life.

A book about love, heartbreak, travel, identity, and the “accidents” of fate, Just One Day shows us how sometimes in order to get found, you first have to get lost. . . and how often the people we are seeking are much closer than we know.

Kiss and Tell by Cherry Adair
Nina says: It was the very first romantic suspense I ever read and thanks to this book I love this genre. It's intense, exciting, dramatic and sizzling hot.

She was looking for adventure.

Marnie Wright has seen more than her fair share of testosterone.  Growing up with four overly protective brothers was one thing.  Now a mountain man named Jake Dolan has invaded a peaceful day of soul-searching at her grandmother's secluded cabin.  Sure, she was trespassing on his private property, but did he have to pull a gun on her?  There's more to this longhaired soldier of fortune who calls himself the Tin Man, but she's not sure she wants to stick around to find out what.  Then he stashes her in his secret lair--an underground techno-fantasy complete with security monitors and an arsenal--and Marnie realizes the guy is military, top secret military.  He's also got the most beautiful mouth she's ever seen.

He could get her killed.

Kitty and the Midnight Hour by Carrie Vaughn
Dawn says: This is a fun, sometimes sexy urban fantasy series about werewolves. Kitty is a strong female lead that's easy to like.

Kitty Norville is a midnight-shift DJ for a Denver radio station - and a werewolf in the closet. Her new late-night advice show for the supernaturally disadvantaged is a raging success, but it's Kitty who can use some help. With one sexy werewolf-hunter and a few homicidal undead on her tail, Kitty may have bitten off more than she can chew?_____________________________________________________________________
Kiss of Frost by Jennifer Estep
Betsy says: Because a good take on a mythology book. I would love to go to this school!

I’m Gwen Frost, a second-year warrior-in-training at Mythos Academy, and I have no idea how I’m going to survive the rest of the semester. One day, I’m getting schooled in swordplay by the guy who broke my heart—the drop-dead gorgeous Logan who slays me every time. Then, an invisible archer in the Library of Antiquities decides to use me for target practice. And now, I find out that someone at the academy is really a Reaper bad guy who wants me dead. I’m afraid if I don’t learn how to live by the sword—with Logan’s help—I just might die by the sword... _____________________________________________________________________
Kiss of Death by Rachel Caine
Anny says: Because this is probably one of the best YA vampire books I've ever read. This series is more than romance, every book has its own adventure. The exciting thing about this book is that the adventure in this book happens somewhere other than Morganville.

Vampire musician Michael Glass has attracted the attention of a big- time producer who wants to cut a demo and play some gigs-which means Michael will have to enter the human world. For this, he's been assigned escorts that include both a dangerous immortal as well as Michael's all-too-human friends. And with that mix of personalities, this is going to be a road trip from hell... _____________________________________________________________________
A Kingdom of Dreams by Judith McNaught
Alice says: Because it is a Scottish-Highlander historical romance, like all Judith McNaught's novels, and it is wholly worthy of 5 stars!

Abducted from her convent school, headstrong Scottish beauty Jennifer Merrick does not easily surrender to Royce Westmoreland, Duke of Claymore. Known as "The Wolf"; his very name strikes terror in the hearts of his enemies. But proud Jennifer will have nothing to do with the fierce English warrior who holds her captive, this handsome rogue who taunts her with his blazing arrogance. Boldly she challenges his will . . . until the night he takes her in his powerful embrace, awakening in her an irresistible hunger. And suddenly Jennifer finds herself ensnared in a bewildering web . . . a seductive, dangerous trap of pride, passion, loyalty, and overwhelming love. _____________________________________________________________________
